Apple iPhone Customers Get The Pip

Apple has been forced to apologise to customers who paid a hefty charge for their iPhone this summer and have since seen the price cut dramatically.

CEO Steve Jobs is offering credits worth about £50 to buyers who paid up to £300 for an iPhone and saw the price reduced by £100 soon after.

The company is also offering a full rebate for those who bought their phones within 14 days of the change.

In a letter on the company's Web site, Mr Jobs accepted that Apple had disappointed some of its customers and said he had received hundreds of emails complaining about the subject.

The "technology road is bumpy," and there would always be people who paid top dollar for the latest electronics but got angry later when the price dropped, he said.

"This is life in the technology lane," he said.

He pointed out that many of the iPhone's early buyers were not interested in the cost aspect which never had been and never was an issue.

They wanted to be among the first owners of something "cool, even revolutionary".

The new change in policy covers those who bought their phones within 14 days of the price cut.

An Apple spokeswoman said the company did not have an estimate of how much the credits would cost Apple.
