The entry-level unit is a must for the beginning drummer, as it simulates the feel of an acoustic instrument while also delivering the benefits of digital technology. The beat radiates from the unit's four touch-sensitive drum pads and four sound-effects pads (with 16 effects), which combine to create a huge variety of sounds. To further mix things up, Yamaha added 55 assignable pulse-code modulation (PCM) voices, 100 PCM rhythm styles, and 10 percussion sets (nine preprogrammed and one user-assignable). Despite the array of features, the set is intuitive and easy to use, with a scroll wheel on the bottom left for browsing through voices and styles and a straightforward user interface.
